  • The Martini is one of the most iconic and classic cocktails, known for its simplicity, elegance, and versatility. Traditionally, a Martini is made with gin and dry vermouth, and it is garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. The ratio of gin to vermouth can vary according to personal taste, with some preferring a drier Martini, which contains less vermouth, and others opting for a wetter version with a higher proportion of vermouth.

There are several variations of the Martini, including:

    - **Dry Martini:** Features a lower amount of dry vermouth. The term "dry" refers to the type of vermouth used as well as the smaller quantity.

    - **Wet Martini:** Contains a higher ratio of dry vermouth to gin.

    - **Dirty Martini:** Includes a splash of olive brine or olive juice and is usually garnished with an olive, adding a salty flavor to the drink.

    - **Vesper Martini:** Made famous by James Bond, this variation includes gin, vodka, and Kina Lillet (though Lillet Blanc is often used as a substitute since Kina Lillet is no longer available), garnished with a lemon twist.

    - **Gibson:** Similar to a standard Martini but garnished with a pickled onion instead of an olive or a lemon twist.

The Martini has a storied history and has been subject to many origin stories and variations over the years. It is often served in a stemmed Martini glass, also known as a cocktail glass, and can be prepared "stirred, not shaken" to maintain clarity and texture, or "shaken, not stirred," which was popularized by the fictional character James Bond and results in a slightly aerated and cloudy appearance.

The Martini remains a symbol of cocktail culture and sophistication, and its recipe continues to be adapted and personalized by bartenders and enthusiasts worldwide, making it a timeless classic in the world of mixed drinks.
