  • In 2010, the cultivation of vineyards began on the historical land of Ateni, renowned for producing the highest quality grapes and thus the finest wines. Archival texts written by Vakhushti Bagrationi in the 17th century attest to the fact that the greatest rulers enjoyed wine from this region of Georgia (Ateni). The initial harvest in 2017 yielded 300 bottles, and by 2021, this number had grown to 10,000 bottles. This year, the target is to pour 30,000 bottles. The goal is not only to boost harvest and quality each year but also to produce sparkling wine, which has made the valley well-known throughout the country. Additionally, the production of organic wine imparts a distinctive quality.

Athenian wine is the most renowned in Kartli. It features a straw-colored tone, a flavorful aroma, and fruity undertones. The vineyards, situated on terraces in a volcanic valley with rocky limestone soil, produce exceptional wine with explosive, flowery, citrus, and mineral tones.

To preserve old traditions, native grape types from the old Kartli—Chinebuli, Tavkveri, Goruli Mtsvane, Shavkapito, Saferavi, Oak Green, and Danakharuli—were planted in the two remarkable ravines of Ateni: Abanos ravine and Degeula ravine. In the near future, there are plans to build a hotel and a wine cellar to promote not only the wine but also the valley and the wine industry globally.
