New life in the old cellar

The yeasts in the Seywalds' old vaulted cellar must have been quite surprised when must suddenly flowed down to them again. After a twenty-year hiatus from producing their own wine, Anne Seywald reopened the cellar doors last year. Her family has been cultivating vines on the steep Castellberg hill for generations, and organically since the early 1990s. However, from the early 2000s onward, Anne's father, Matthias, focused on grape production.

With Anne Seywald's first vintage in 2024, Gutedel, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay from just under one hectare were bottled. The master winemaker prefers working with used barriques; the wines are spontaneously fermented and bottled unfiltered. It is the art of precise omission that defines her wines.
