Barren limestone, legendary block

The Klotz winery is a joint project of the Keller and Reinecker families, who are close friends. Both families have been deeply rooted in winemaking for generations. The Kellers are based in Oberbergen am Kaiserstuhl, with the Franz Keller winery and the Schwarzer Adler restaurant. The Reineckers run a sparkling wine cellar in Auggen, which has a reputation that extends far beyond the region.
When the opportunity arose in 2019 to take over a winery in Istein, the two families didn't hesitate. The unique vineyard sites on the barren limestone soils around the Isteiner Klotz hill are practically perfect for what they envisioned: delicate Pinot Noir and mineral-driven Gutedel. The younger generation, Steffen Reinecker and Friedrich Keller, took the reins at Klotz and, in just three years, have managed to give the winery precisely this refined, elegant, and distinctive style.
