Climate – The Okami microzone has a dry subtropical climate, with moderately cold winters and dry, hot summers. The annual duration of sunlight is 2250-2400 hours, and during the growing season it exceeds 1600-1800 hours. The average annual temperature is 11.4°C, in January – 0.5°C, and in August – 23°C. East and west winds prevail in the territory of the municipality. The sum of active temperatures is 3450-3600°C.
The average annual rainfall is 500 mm. A fairly large proportion of precipitation in the microzone falls in spring and early summer, i.e. during the period of plant growth and flowering, and a small amount - in late summer and early autumn, i.e. during grape ripening, which creates extremely favorable conditions for the normal and perfect formation of the fruit.
In addition, the rather high sum of active temperatures in the microzone (3450-4700°С), warm days and cool nights during the grape ripening period, ensure a significant increase in sugar concentration in the fruit.
Soil – The Oka microzone is mainly represented by meadow brown, carbonate and alluvial soils. Most of the soils have a nodular-grained structure, the mechanical composition of which mainly belongs to heavy and medium loams and light clays, and the physical clay content is within 45-85%. Carbonates are mostly contained in small quantities and vary within 2.8-6.6% in the profile. The soils are mainly alkaline in reaction – the pH indicator is 8.2-8.7. The thickness of the soil profile is within 0.8-1.3 meters, and the active humus layer varies within 50-60 cm.
The organic matter content is medium to low and ranges from 2.42-5.85%.
The soil contains medium to small amounts of soluble (available) phosphorus, which amounts to 1.83-16.40 mg per 1 kg of soil, and in some cases it is present only in trace amounts. It contains a fairly large amount of exchangeable potassium, which amounts to 480-650 mg per 1 kg of soil in the planting layer.
The sum of absorbed bases (Ca+Mg) is characterized by a high rate and is within the range of 41.33-43.84 milliequivalents per 100 g of soil. Of these, a much higher percentage falls on absorbed calcium, while magnesium is much smaller.

Ivane Mukhranbatoni (second half of the 19th century) and Tengiz Kekelidze, who founded the Okami Winery in 1965 and was its first director, made a special contribution to the development of viticulture and winemaking in this region.
