  • Cabernet Moravia is the product of a successful crossing between Zweigeltrebe and Cabernet Franc by Lubomír Glos in 1975. This variety has demonstrated its suitability for cultivation, quality of grapes, and the exceptional wine it produces. Following promising results, the variety saw extensive propagation and planting, even during the previous regime, accumulating valuable experience in both cultivation and wine quality.

Cabernet Moravia thrives as a late-ripening, highly fruitful variety, best suited to the warmest, southern regions of Moravia. It prefers poorer, drier soils, which, while reducing yield, significantly enhance quality. Pruning greatly influences both the quantity and quality of the grapes, with a single stem and trailing cut proving most efficient. This variety self-regulates well, with shorter cuts leading to larger, more numerous grapes on each shoot, and an increase in berry size. It is beneficial to reduce the number of grapes or halve them at ripening to manage this growth effectively.

Adopting recommended agronomic practices promotes accelerated ripening, increased sugar content, and excellent phenolic seed maturity. Opting for the latest possible harvest further ensures high-quality raw material for attribute wines, maintaining high yields even in less favorable years.

Wine quality varies based on grape volume, harvest timing, growth location, and processing technology. The aromatic profile closely resembles that of Cabernet Franc, evolving from grassy notes in early ripening—often compared to green poppies, enhanced by sulfurization—to pepper, and finally to the rich aromas of blueberries and blackcurrants. Wines from well-ripened grapes boast vibrant colors, lower acidity, and smooth tannins, gaining popularity among consumers. Barrel aging notably improves quality and longevity.

Cabernet Moravia is legally protected, with propagation and seedling distribution managed by Kraus Mělník.
