    ======================

    **Regent** is a disease-resistant red grape variety developed in Germany, known for its deep color, moderate acidity, and smooth tannins. It produces wines with flavors of cherry, blackberry, and spice, often benefiting from oak aging. Suitable for cool to temperate climates, Regent offers strong resistance to downy and powdery mildew, making it a popular choice for sustainable viticulture.

    ==========================

    **Regent** is a red grape variety developed in Germany at the Geilweilerhof Institute for Grape Breeding, officially released in 1996. It is a hybrid cross between **Diana (Silvaner x Müller-Thurgau) and Chambourcin**, combining the desirable characteristics of Vitis vinifera with the disease resistance of interspecific hybrids.

    Regent is well-suited for cool to temperate climates and is known for its **strong resistance to fungal diseases**, particularly **downy mildew, powdery mildew, and botrytis**, making it an excellent choice for organic and sustainable viticulture. It also exhibits **good frost resistance** and moderate vigor, with a **semi-upright growth habit** and **mid to late-season ripening**.

    In winemaking, Regent produces **deeply colored red wines** with a rich fruit profile, including **cherry, blackberry, and plum**, along with **spicy, earthy, and chocolate-like notes**. The wines have **moderate to high acidity**, **soft to medium tannins**, and an **alcohol potential of 12–14% ABV**. Regent is well-suited for **oak aging**, which enhances its complexity and structure.

    This variety is mainly grown in **Germany**, particularly in **Rheinhessen, Pfalz, and Baden**, but also has plantings in **Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, and parts of the USA (East Coast and Pacific Northwest)**. Its adaptability, disease resistance, and ability to produce high-quality wines make Regent a promising choice for modern viticulture.
